LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the largest professional networking site available. LinkedIn provides a way to connect with other professionals and helps you stay in contact with millions of users using a professional platform to keep in touch. LinkedIn is strictly used for exchanging knowledge, ideas, and opportunities and has increasingly become a leader in helping individuals find groups of interest as well as jobs in their field.

LinkedIn Tips:

  • Personalize your LinkedIn web address. Create a URL that closely matches your name.
  • Make sure your profile is updated (headline, photo, about, role history)
  • Share updates and share often! People who share 2-5 times a day see an increase in profile views and engagement.
  • Make it dynamic by adding work samples, photos, personal websites, blog feeds, and/or relevant social media.
  • Use industry keywords. If you aren’t sure what they are, look at other professionals’ profiles (check out their skills section), especially at companies you want to work for.
  • List transferable and technical skills. These skills can be scanned by recruiters on LinkedIn.
  • Utilize the social aspect by asking for recommendations and endorsements from peers, professors, and colleagues.
  • Join LinkedIn Groups to meet with peers and influencers. Demonstrate your expertise through your engagement in these groups. Follow the Cal Poly Pomona Career Center
