Providing References
Who do you know? A reference is an individual who provides you a solid statement about you as an individual and the contributions you have made or experience you have acquired. This can be written although most often a potential hiring manager will contact a reference. Begin now and acquire a few references on a single page. Employers will be impressed with your list if you provide it during an interview. It shows how proactive you are with a reference list of at least three to five individuals.
Although similar, a letter or recommendation generally supports your graduate or professional school aspirations, internships, or even job opportunities. It is tailored to a specific program or opportunity. Depending on it’s use, follow guidelines set by the academic institution for grad/professional school applications.
Selecting who will complete a letter or recommendation can be a daunting task so create a list now and stay in touch with individuals. Perhaps you’ll discover a few additional contacts during your journey on campus. Make sure to provide these individuals with enough information and lead time for writing a letter. Keep an updated resume on hand as you begin to ask for letters.
