The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates (The League) is seeking a full-time Senior Director of Regulatory Advocacy to join our Advocacy team. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced compliance or government affairs professional who is organized, adaptable, and passionate about advocating for the interests of credit unions.
As the Senior Director of Regulatory Advocacy, you will work closely with our regulatory advocacy team, state and federal lobbyists, and compliance team to strategically engage regulatory agencies and policymakers. You will help ensure credit unions are represented, informed, and influential in the development of laws and regulations affecting the industry.
What You’ll Take Ownership Of:
- Representing The League before state and federal agency officials, building trusted relationships across both political parties.
- Monitoring and analyzing federal legislation, committee hearings, and regulatory proposals to identify threats and opportunities for credit unions.
- Reviewing proposed bills and providing analysis of credit union impact to state lobbyists and member credit unions.
- Drafting policy briefs, position statements, and testimony to support The League’s positions on federal issues such as Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) rulemakings, National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) regulations, and IRS- and tax-related matters.
- Coordinating with national trade associations and federal partners to align messaging and strengthen industry-wide influence.
- Supporting the development and execution of state-level advocacy strategies across The League’s footprint, including attending policy meetings and providing written policy analysis.
- Contributing to The League’s comment letters, regulatory alerts, and grassroots calls-to-action on both state and federal issues.
- Assisting with advocacy events such as “Hike the Hill,” state legislative events, and regulatory roundtables, including preparation of briefing materials and participant coordination.
- Engaging with member credit unions to educate and mobilize them around key advocacy priorities, including grassroots efforts and PAC engagement.
- Serving as a liaison to select regulatory agencies, including the CFPB, NCUA, and state regulators, as needed, building and maintaining relationships with key agency contacts on credit union issues.
- Performing other duties and special projects as assigned.
What You’ll Bring to the Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, or a related field is required. A Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school is a plus.
- Five years of experience in legislative affairs, regulatory advocacy, public policy, or compliance, preferably in a trade association, Capitol Hill, or financial services setting.
- Demonstrated experience lobbying or engaging with federal and/or state government officials, with a track record of advancing policy or regulatory outcomes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook, as well as Salesforce or a similar CRM platform.
Work Schedule:
The Senior Director of Regulatory Advocacy will be required to travel up to 50% across The League’s footprint-including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, Washington, D.C., state capitals, and member credit unions. Overnight travel is likely and a valid driver’s license is required.
